BURTON CHURCH NEWS

Burton Church are delighted that the Reverend Marianne Osborne has been appointed as Priest in Charge at Burton and Rosemarket .Her Licensing is to take place at Rosemarket Church on Monday,14 th . November at 7p.m.Marianne will commence her duties from that date.

Burton Church are holding a welcome evening for Marianne and family on Friday, 18 th .November, 6.30p.m. at the Mission Hall. We hope that as many parishioners as possible will come along to take the opportunity to welcome her and her family. Light refreshments will be served.

Marianne and Family will move into Burton Rectory at half term.

Meanwhile we thank Reverend Graham Lloyd for looking after us during the last part of this Interregnum, for taking services and undertaking pastoral care within the Parish. Also our grateful thanks are extended to the Clergy who took our services until Easter.

Church events and meetings have continued during our interregnum thanks to the hard work of the P.C.C. and many other loyal volunteers. The church has been regularly decorated with flowers and cleaned. Communion has been held at Williamston Nursing Home and been supported by Church members .Reverend Lloyd has visited Cleddau Reach School , Burton Base and taken assembly.

A very successful Barbeque was held in July, despite the appalling weather, when food was eaten inside, while in the true spirit of Barbeques the food was cooked outside!

A very memorable visit by the Rt. Reverend Wyn Evans, Bishop of St. David's to Burton Church took place in September. Bishop Wyn dedicated a special children` s area within the church. The children `s area was developed in memory of Mr. Brian Davies who served as a Parochial Church Councillor and Churchwarden for many years. Children have always enjoyed an important place in the life of the church so it was most rewarding to see all the children from Burton Base play a major part in the dedication service, watched by parents and friends. Tea was served after the service.

Rosemarket Church News

During the past few months there have been some most enjoyable events arranged by members of the Parochial Church Council and friends of the church, all to raise funds in support of our ongoing running and maintenance costs.

In mid-summer we had a most enjoyable Summer Fete, this our major annual fund raising event. This again took place in the Dovecote Field courtesy of Fan and George Harries and Colin. This year we had a range of children's attractions, fine afternoon teas and also hamburgers and hot dogs in addition to the traditional stalls. The weather was good, we again had a bouncy castle, and we enjoyed an excellent attendance. Importantly we raised about £1700 for our funds, this including the monies generated in the grand raffle.

As we moved into early October we held our Annual Harvest Service, and again the church was wonderfully decorated for the occasion with flowers and harvest produce.

We would say a big thank you to everyone in the community who has supported our church through these recent events and to all others who have provided support through gifts and acts of kindness to the church.

We now move into the winter months and our programme is as follows:

Our Annual Service of Remembrance will be held at 10.30am on Sunday13th November 2011 then remembering those from our small village who have fallen in the two world wars and whose names are on the memorial plaque in the church. Members of the church and of the Rosemarket Community Council will place poppy wreaths at the foot of the memorial.

A similar brief service will also be held in the village hall afterwards, where there is a further memorial to those villagers who gave their lives in the two world wars and who must not be forgotten

On the following evening, this Monday 14 th November 2011 we are to welcome our new vicar Reverend Marianne Osborne here to our parish. A formal Licencing Ceremony will be conducted by the Bishop of St.Davids in our church and this will begin at 7.00pm. All are welcome to attend.

Our next special event, this a Christmas Carol Service, will be held on the evening of Friday, 16 th December, beginning at 6.00pm. This will take the traditional form of lessons and well known carols telling the story of Christmas. After the service there will be some light refreshments for all.

On Christmas Day - this most special day in the church calendar and when we celebrate the birth of baby Jesus, a service of Holy Eucharist will be held in our church at 10.30am.

Please join with us at the events described above, and also attend our regular services whenever you want the times are published on the church notice board and elsewhere in this magazine.

Finally we extend sincere Greetings to all in our community and ask that through this coming festive season you all please remember the true meaning of Christmas.
