Rosemarket Church News
Firstly we would say a big thank you to everyone in the community who has supported our church through the recent fund raising events. In June we distributed letters to all households seeking support for our Annual Gift Day. This event is usually arranged on the Sunday nearest to the birth date of our church patron St. Ismael. This year Gift Day was celebrated with a Choral Concert performed by the Neyland Ladies Choir. All those who attended the concert were treated to a most delightful range of music, and with the mid-summer sunlight glinting in through the stained glass windows, the church provided a most tranquil and serene setting for the choir. Already contributions to the Gift Day appeal have reached more than £600 and this is perhaps a sign of true appreciation from our small community of the value that is placed on our little church that has stood on this site for more than one thousand years.
As we go to print we are now all eagerly looking forward to out Annual Garden Fete, this the focal point of our fund raising activities during the year. The Fete is to be held at 2.00pm pm Saturday, 26 th July 2008 and once again at the Dovecote Field in Rosemarket with the kind permission of Fan, George and Colin Harries. As always there will be our traditional range of stalls including cakes, plants, bottles, bric-a-brac, and books. Food and refreshments will be available for all.
Do please come and enjoy the Fete and particularly view the flower gardens and grounds which have been further developed and enhanced in recent years. Visitors may also look more closely at the recently refurbished dovecote, perhaps even taking time to look inside this interesting building as it is now safe to do so following the excellent and award winning renovation works completed in recent years. Come along also for a friendly and relaxed chat amongst friends and neighbours in this peaceful garden setting. Old friends, new friends and visitors - we would love to see you all and admission is free. Separately we would advise that tickets for our Annual Grand Raffle will also be on sale at the Fete. There are a range of monetary prizes to the total value of £100, and other prizes, all of which have been kindly donated; the prize draw will take place during the afternoon.
Future dates for your diary are as follows. Our Annual Harvest Festival will be held on Sunday 28 th September when there will be a Holy Communion Service at 10.30am in the morning. On Sunday, 9 th November, we will hold our traditional Remembrance Day Service in the church, this also commencing at 10.30am. During this service poppy wreaths will be placed at the foot of the two memorial plaques in the church in memory of the many from within the parish that fought and fell in the two world wars.
Of course we must remind everyone that we are still maintaining our full range of services in the church even though we have now been without a vicar for a year. This is made possible with the kind assistance of visiting vicars, mainly recently retired clergy, together with the able support of our two churchwardens and their assistants. Very regular support has particularly been given to us by Father Graham Lloyd of Haverfordwest and who will be with us for some time until a new vicar is found.
Finally a sincere thanks to everyone for their support; this has been greatly appreciated. Please join with us at the events described above, and also attend our regular services whenever you want – the times are published on the church notice board. Now please all enjoy the remainder of summer, and hopefully the weather will be kind to you all, both here in Rosemarket or to wherever you might travel on holiday.
